Remember Pearl Harbor

Some people compared the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks on the US to Pearl Harbor. An unprovoked attack on sovreign US soil. We went to war over it, and fought three different enemies, on all hemispheres of the globe. World War Two.

This was a illustration of our resolve after Pearl Harbor.

Where has it gone? Where has the American Fighting Spirit gone?? I know millions of us still possess it. I know millions of Americans support our effort. I want to know this:

What would have happened to someone back in 1944 or 1945 who, three years after an attack, and three years after we had been fighting our enemies, decided they had had 'enough' of the war, and wanted us to stop fighting before we completely defeated the Japanese or the Germans??

The poster says "OUR BULLETS WILL DO IT". That is the only way, sometimes.

Dear Son MDG, Thanks for the reminder to all of us. I can't think of a more fitting tribute to the sacrifice made by so many Americans of the WWII era. (that includes the soldiers who fought, the wives and family who went to the factories to provide the munitions and supplies needed, and the country on the whole who prayed for victory).

Those of that generation would be proud to know there is another generation who understand their love of country and their motives for keeping us free.

Thank you for sharing what that recent visit meant to you.

It was great to have you home, too. Love, Little Mazza

Good story, good writing. But it doesn't apply anymore. Really, it doen't. The American people can't even remember 9/11 or fear Islam which is multitudes more evil than Japan ever was.

So...how does an old war fought by people in the past affect them?

Not any at all.

Why don't people support the war in Iraq? Iraq didn't attack us. Our presence there is counterproductive to the War on Terror. It is motivating people to join international jihadist movements, and it is making us less safe.

That's why.

MDG,

I'll say it again, welcome back and THANKS for your service. enjoy your vacation, you've earned it.

2400 died when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. As you know this a higher amount on that 1 day (really a few hours) than we've had in Iraq in 3 years. If todays liberals (in Hollywood, elected office, and the general public), who are screaming that 2000 deaths in Iraq are too much, were as vocal in 1941 as they are now you would have heard calls for an exit strategy on Dec 8th.

anonymous, get a pair and leave a real name!

Dear Soldiers in Iraq,

I am writing a story on the health and nutrition of the combat soldiers. Looking for any info I can get on what you eat, when you eat it etc. Also wanted to know if the 'exotic' bacteria of Iraq are making you sick? getting the shist? Getting sick in general? How about the other soliders. Anyone constipated. Does nayone have the mail of someone who serves food or treats soldiers when they get sick?

If you send info, please let me know if I can quote you or not - eother way is fine.

Any info would be appreciated. And thank you for what you are doing.

Please pass this message along to others.

Cheers, Jeff jeff@gutfeelingcolumn.com

Pearl Harbor was carried out by a nation state, so US citizens could se a clearly defined enemy. 9/11 was carried out by a cult with members in many states. There is no clearly defined enemy, no capital to conquer, and no borders to send our armies across. The Saudi government may be lax about this cult, but they did not plan 9/11 and it would be hard to justify invading Saudi Arabia.

Laura, that's absurd. The bad guys are using the war to recruit people. It is far from clear how many of the thousands of people who are fighting U.S. forces would have taken up arms without the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq.

Actually, Gunner, Germany declared war on us. And they were attacking our civilian ships, carry military supplies to England, on the high seas. And Papa Ray is right. Nobody remembers WW2, all the young guys joining up, for the duration too. There wasn't any 1 year tour. You went over there and you knew you were'nt coming back till the war was won. I was just a kid but I remember the rationing. You got a little ration stamp book, you could buy only so much butter, sugar, tires. They didn't even make cars for the public. All our industry did was build things for the Military. We built thousands of ships, Airplanes, tanks. Everything went for the Military. All of that industry is gone now, we can never do that again. I understand some of the weapons we have in Iraq are made in China and Isreal. And we are paying contractors to hire Mexicans to work in Mississippi and New Orleans, instead of Americans in need of jobs.
